Glen Spots a Peeping Tom…

GOOD MORNING! Or…. afternoon really. How’s my lovely audience out there? I’m sitting here waiting for a good old fashioned Nor’ Easter to blow through and bury us all in snow. In the meantime Glen is chilling, as you can see, coming out of a luxurious bath only to let us meet a new character – the peeping Tom.

Last night I spent some time setting up a new swag shop for Glen and while I was looking over old designs I was wowed at how far I have come and how much I have learned just tooling around here drawing a Glen every week. Tonight’s comic shows how far I have come with layers to draw a turkey and then an opaque window over it. It’s a simple design and yet… there’s some tricks here. I look forward to drawing more and seeing how far I can take this.

Glen Lets us Meet his Ancestors

Why not start out your week with no less than THREE butterfly puns. There’s something for everyone in this comic – bugs, opera references, a prison escape, and a beloved science theory!! We really outdid ourselves and I hope delivered a chuckle or two.

This week I had NO IDEA what I was supposed to be drawing. Between a three day migraine and being super busy on top of that I didn’t have the luxury of free mental space for Glen. That being said I don’t think this last minute drawing was all that bad! It brought together a bunch of random things kicking around in my brain.

Do you have any idea how hard it is to make a butterfly that looks like a geisha?! HARD. But at least the wallpaper was a super easy cut n’ paste. All and all I am not unhappy. I think it’s pretty cute. Although I do think these comics with too many words or obscure references perform poorly. Oh well, I like it, and I guess at the end of the day that’s all that really matters. That and if I can get one person to clap so these comics don’t die…

I don’t think I did anything particularly new with this comic besides mess with the opacity of the final blue layer – giving it the illusion of being under water. Even so I am very happy with how it has come out and I think Glen has come a long way in just a short amount of time.

Glen Introduces a Good Friend…

Alright, I know we’re all running on empty this week, looking on in horror at what’s happening in the US. I’m no different. It’s been disgusting, heartbreaking, worrisome, and enraging. But through all the anxiety what I felt I needed more that anything else was unapologetic joy. So here it is – I redrew an old concept and it’s still whimsical and adorable. It’s completely lacking in a punchline but at this point I just don’t care. It’s time to sing everybody! SING! LOUDER!

I actually took a lot of time on this comic trying to figure out how to draw a frog and how to make it’s skin look… frog-like. And I am proud of how it came out! I also got completely misdirected when said frog insisted on a wooly hat and a weird puffy coat. I have no idea where that came from but hey, whatever makes him happy!

Glen Discovers the Truth Behind Frosty’s Magic Hat…

Well it’s the first Glen of the New Year! And I have been having a *super* stressful life at the moment which has sapped me of my creative juices. As such today’s comic was dreamed up at the last minute and drawn just as hastily. I’ll try to do better next time.

Glen writes his New Year’s resolutions…

I’m not going to lie. For however burned out you feel at the end of 2020 I probably feel eight times as bad. Life with chronic pain/illness is so much fun but with that being said I am super thrilled to announce this is the first full year Glen has celebrated with you! And what a ride! And so today’s new Year’s resolution also serves as a half apology. From Glen. He’s sorry. He really is. But mostly because I have rationed his cookies from here on out.

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE! And good riddance to 2020!!!

Glen’s Christmas Tree Waits for an Ambush…

Did you know this week is Christmas?! I didn’t! Between all the Covid restrictions I’m not really celebrating this year so it slipped my mind…. but with that being said Glen’s kids sure didn’t forget and they are up to their usual mischief.

I really pushed myself with today’s comic. I knew what I wanted to do but was at a loss on how to illustrate it. I decided I had to step back and draw the tree like a artificial Christmas tree is built – with a tinsel covered pole in the middle holding up several layers of branches also wrapped in green tinsel/pipe cleaner? I drew the base and then copy and pasted it several times on different layers, making sure to shrink each successive layer to make that lovely pine tree shape. And then I decorated it and added Glen’s kids between the layers so that it’d look like they were in the tree. When I finished that I copied the whole thing and threw it behind an opaque black fill-in to make it look like the lights were out. I tried to make the Christmas lights glow but somewhere between all the layering I wasn’t sure how to accomplish that… Even so I am super happy with how this one came out.

Recently I have decided to try harder not just with Glen but my other illustrations. For instance I am trying to illustrate a book of dreams I wrote down and I am having a lot of fun with it. I also continue to dream of animation so who knows where I will go from here. My artistic ambitions continue to grow as I teach myself new skills.

The Boxes are Always More Fun than What’s in Them…

I’m not going to lie – since the holidays I have doubled my efforts to stay in place and as a result I am lacking a lot of inspiration. I need muses! But alas, all I have is Amazon boxes… Eureka! That’s it!

The Making of Glen

Yesterday, when I drew this, was one of those days everything was coming together easy as pie. I came up with the idea of making Glen a box fort and then everything else followed. I didn’t have to do anything particularly new but I was surprised how much depth I could get just putting boxes in front of boxes! And in any event this was a little tip of the hat to my inner child. I am really enjoying drawing Glen lately and wonder if I shouldn’t be stretching my wings a bit and trying some animation!

Glen Gets Stuck in a Tween Girl’s Retro ’90’s Trapper Keeper

It’s been a crazy few days and sadly I totally forgot about Glen which is probably why this week’s Glen is so….. surreal.

I had no inspiration this week so I just opened my illustration program and started playing with the random effects until I realized it looked like a a Lisa Frank monstrosity and voila! This weirdly nostalgic comic came to life. I apologize I cannot draw a unicorn worth beans.
