Glen Gives a Gift to the Headless Horseman

Hey hey! Glen and myself are back after two accidental weeks on hiatus! Of course we had to come back because it’s October and Halloween season is the best of the year, especially living in New England which has such a steep tradition of horror. This week’s comic reflects this beautifully combining the Headless Horseman with the most terrifying things to ever come out of a cabbage patch. Happy October everyone!

The Making of Glen

I must admit that all these little breaks I keep taking from Glen are born to the fact that I have just been overwhelmed by life and I know with the current climate I am by far not the only one breaking under the stress. Similiarly, I have been struggling with profound disillusionment and disappointment in the human race so I felt the need this week to draw something kind.

And boy was it a challenge! My first attempt at drawing a horse resulted into a crude doodle befitting a drunk toddler. My second attempt inexplicably looked like a kangaroo which made no sense what-so-ever considering I had come to my sense by that time and was just tracing an actual horse. It took a great deal of tweaking before it looked somewhat OK. I’m now mildly satisfied with my efforts. Next week shall be better.

Glen Learns How to Argue the Straw Man…

I know, I have been really bad at posting Glen regularly. It’s a conflict of schedule I have at the moment as well as the nature of life these days so I’m changing his day to Monday… and because I am very exhausted at seeing people argue I am making a little light of in this week’s comic. Ah Glen, my little glimmer of sanity…

Glen gives the baby Kracken his first ship…

I apologize for the lack of a Glen comic last week. I had a migraine all week and was so out of it that Friday came and went without me noticing. This week I have decided to make up for this by drawing something so intensely adorable it’ll have the power to melt your heart. And here it is! Inspired by a very late night conversation about how sea monsters should be “boopable.”

The Making of Glen

This week’s Glen was a tough concept for me to gather and make into a readable image. How does one draw a Kracken in a way that makes it look like a baby? And how does one get a ship in bottle??

The answer to the first was to put the Kracken in a crib and endear it to audiences with HUGE baby eyes. As for the ship… that was actually a lot easier than I thought it would be. I drew a ship and then drew a bottle around it one layer below it. Voila! Nothing else fancy done here except use layers to make the legs all make sense.

A final note here would be that right now as my mind juggles a billion other things I have found having a muse is essential. This time it was inspired by someone telling me about a story they were writing where they were criticized for making legendary sea monsters adorable. Did I hear a challenge??

Glen Does an Infomercial

Today Glen shows everyone his little side hustle – perfume for cats. I think we can all agree we needed this this week. I know I did!

The Making of Glen

This week my inspiration for Glen was someone who wasn’t talking so well and said purry-fume instead of perfume. It was a long and trying week on us all but this made me laugh because I thought, “That COULD actually be a word…” And so I set about making a little infomercial. I didn’t do anything special illustrationwise but I am happy with the aesthetics none-the-less, and the idea of making the purrfume into a cat bottle that spritzes perfume out of it’s mouth… again that was all me being weird while I was drawing the thing. In the interest of keeping glen PG (which I don’t actually always want to do but my internet audience seems to want) I refrained from making a series of crude puns. SIIIIIIGH.

I think everyone is going a little insane lately. God know I am, so it’s been really nice to come up with a Glen comic I’m actually pretty proud of. Hope it made you laugh!

Glen Interviews Bigfoot

I spent this week jokingly tracking Bigfoot so I figured hey why not let Glen go the rest of the way and snag an interview with the mysterious beastie.

The Making of Glen

I admit I was a day off this week, thought today was Thurseday, and then decided it was better to do a quickie Glen than wait until tomorrow…

It’s a simple enough pane but I did do something new – I learned how to pixilate an image in Clip Studio! Filter>Effect>Mosiac. Very cool. I will likely use this again at some point. It seems fun to use for innuendo.

Glen Meets a Newt

“Eye of newt, and toe of frog. For a charm of powerful trouble, Like a hell-broth boil and bubble!” Clearly I have been reading too much Shakespeare as of late. Mix that with a walloping dose of insomnia and I think my brain is pretty well melted. Good thing that really works for me… and Glen of course.

The Making of Glen

It has come to my attention that my art, writing, and yes, even these comics, can be a little intimidating to some because of their complexity and layering of many puns on top of each other. So I have decided to bring it down a little, go back to the basics and make it super simple. Maybe then Glen will be an easier sell because as it stands right now his only diehard fans are all people who know me personally and already love me for my weird brain. That’s really sweet and I’m not ungrateful buuuut I would also love for him to be a little more approachable to the outside world.

Glen Meets the Free Hugs Committee…

Well it’s May Day. This either means the day where old people reminisce about handing out baskets and kisses ooooooor it’s what you call when your plane is hurtling toward a rough and unexpected landing. Maybe there’s some middle ground here? Wonder if Glen could achieve this feat. Why yes, yes he can!

The Making of Glen

I was lacking in inspiration this week and came up with this idea only after procrastinating BADLY. I consulted my muse asking what would be a terrible thing to hug and they said a porcupine. Seriously?! Now I have to figure out how to draw a porcupine! Even though it’s an old idea I still think it came out cute.

I did a lot of new things with this comic… for one I drew a porcupine which I decided should look like an exploding fuzz ball. I used the fingertip blur tool to achieve this and learned the more violently you draw each line the farther it’ll go! I also enjoyed learning how to draw a snake entwined in a tree branch which is harder than it sounds. I was lazy with his scales though using the spray paint tool. And I was challenged in how to draw a face hugger and an amoeba… but I think I got it! Actually the longest time I spent on making this comic was drawing the bubble letters. I have been obsessed with bubble letters since grade school and always wanted to know how to draw them. I don’t feel as if I’m great at this yet but I’m getting there!

Glen Creates his own Rules of Robotics…

This week I actually drew Glen a day early! And then forgot to post it until now. I can’t be too organized you know. That might makes something implode. As usual my inspiration was…. chaotic… but I hope it worked out. Enjoy!

The Making of Glen…

I admit I put more effort into this panel than I have been lately but with that being said I think it’s a bit… busy….

I had a bunch of images in my head and I tried to make one panel of it. I experimented with the opacity of the watercolor brush (which gave a cool day glow effect) and handwrote all the wording. I used to feel this makes it look unprofessional but lately… I don’t know, I just like the individual feel of a handwritten comic. As long as it’s legible who cares if every e looks the same?!

I also tried out the ide of not separating the individual scenes into their own boxes… I am honestly not sure how I feel about the outcome. All this and I did very little new in the area of drawing and the robots look intensely crude but hey, it’s not that bad for a first attempt at drawing one I don’t think.

Glen Releases the Kracken

This week’s comic was an absolute joy to draw. This was the first time since I started this website that Glen decided to take me for a ride. This was not at all what I was trying to draw when I started but I must say I am super happy with the results! I feel like I finally reclaimed Glen’s disturbingly cute spirit.

And this is the first comic I have drawn that’s more than one panel! I think I will do that more often now. I am having so much fun working with layers and adding details that now my mind is on fire with the idea of perhaps doing an animation someday.

This comic was supposed to be another joke on a popular song but with the addition of a Kraken that went out the window and I am at a loss as to any songs that do in fact describe such a wonderful beast. So if you happen to know some kick ass death metal song about a giant killer squid, or perhaps some sort of acapella punk ballad about sunken ships, please leave them in the comments! All genres welcome!

Oh and since I was working with layers I was able to quickly jot up this bonus panel which looks like it’d make an awesome meme…

Glen Stumbles into the Popples’ Dungeon…

Alright. I know you’re all probably staring at this in somewhat shocked horror. Just HOW did I come up with this one?! And the answer is quite simple. Vermont. Vermont should take 100% of the blame for this intensely disquieting image.

Vermont is a crazy place full of artists, recluses, hippies, and people with a weird sense of humor so I guess I shouldn’t have been all that surprised to learn that there isn’t one Popples Dungeon Road but rather two a hundred miles apart and smack dab in the middle of nowhere. Clearly this got the gears in my head turning. Who named their road Popples Dungeon and what the hell does that mean?! Are these iconic 1980’s plush toys being tortured there?? In the middle of the woods?!

Not exactly. The original Popples Dungeon Road has been named that since before living memory which makes it a bit of a mystery. The second Popples Dungeon came about when a bored teenager stole the road sign to the original road and brought it home, displaying it at the end of his unnamed private road for decades, periodically replacing it until in 1993 it was finally registered as the road’s official name… by someone… no one really knows who.

So there we are with a hilarious story, likely a great deal of confused delivery men, and a terrible picture ripped from my warped imagination. Hope you enjoyed it!
