Life as an author is always bringing me new experiences and I can’t complain, I am enjoying the journey I’m on. Still, if you asked me a few years ago if I would have two audiobooks under my belt I would have looked at you with a dubious smile, thanking you for believing so much in me, but quietly pushing off the notion I was capable of anything more than just a normal published book to my name.
That’s not to say I didn’t want my books to be recorded on audio, I have always been for better broader access to my works, it’s just I knew that these two books in particular had to be voiced by yours truly. They were stories from my life after all. I’ll let you in on a little secret, I like so many other people don’t really like my voice. But these are changing times and audio books are in demand. People are listening to them in numbers never seen before and I can see why! No longer do you have to make time to read a book, now you can listen to one being read to you as you drive or do chores. How sweet is that?!
And so I got a lot of encouragement from friends and fans to just bite the bullet and try. It was a GRUELING experience. I read Honoring Echo four times before I felt satisfied with it and then I had to listen to it AGAIN as I learned the art of editing! It may have been fun if it was someone else’s book but reading my own that many times?! And having it already be about my life?! I was soooo sick of myself by the time I was done! But I did it. And then I moved onto Milking the Cat which came easier.
By the time I finished Milking the Cat I was actually enjoying the process so much that I decided to lend my voice to work from other authors and that’s where I am now. I’m also planning to produce Achilles in Heels but because I am not experienced enough yet to come up with that many new voices I am instead roping in friends and loved ones and hope to have it come together soon. It’d be such a joy to listen to read out like a play. My heart would be SO HAPPY.
But that brings me to the end of this joyful entry where I get to give you the appropriate links in case you want to hear me tell my stories as you’re doing dishes, or relaxing, or whatever it is you do while the audiobooks are playing. Much love and thank you all so much for your support. It means the world to me.
