I have heard a lot about the importance of hiring a professional book cover designer to do this job but I have a few issues with that. The first is I don’t have the dough to invest even more into these projects when I have the skills to probably pull off something at least halfway decent. Besides this I frequently already have a vision in my head. Do I think it’ll work to get reader’s attention? I hope so! Here’s what I have come up with…
Milking the Cat is very lighthearted and funny and since so many of the stories took place during my adolescence when I was very into black light posters and the music of the 1960’s I knew immediately I wanted to take a photo of one of my cats and make him into a concert poster. Here’s what I came up with:
February’s book was dark, brooding, morally tinged, and a massive homage to genderfuckery. It was about a fallen angel, a tortured one, and well… I had a very distinct image in my head but since I can’t draw I couldn’t make it a realization. Instead I found a marble sculpture that PERFECTLY summarized all this subject matter. And then I made it transparent and placed it over a photo I took of a quarry adding some delicious Gothic lettering…
The third I was going to take a photo myself of various props out in the woods but it seemed a bit excessive to spend $80 on shoes I’d never wear and whatever it takes to bring home a Roman shied and helmet. Instead I improvised and came up with this, adding a satirical subtitle:
I think I have captured the mood of each really well and am super content. I cannot wait for the editing process to be done so I can publish them!
