Progress on my Book-a-Month Challenge

Back in January I decided that I was going to challenge myself to writing a book a month for two years in the hopes of getting my name out there and starting to earn a livable income on this little hobby of mine.

Well… it’s going pretty good!

January: In January I wrote Milking the Cat, an anthology of personal stories about my life as a pet owner, wildlife observer, poultry farmer, and former breeder. It’s meant to be endearing and funny. I created a kick-ass cover for it and now it is awaiting the loving attention of an editor.

February: In February I found a stash of old writing from ten years ago and one of the stories I had was very partial but has been bugging me for years so I picked it up again and finished it. It was a crazy rabbit hole to fall down! I titled it The Disparaged and it’s a dark fantasy/noir about a character who is a fallen angel by day and an incubus by night. Kidnapped by a human assassin hired by a strange and mysterious cult he has to live on their compound and figure out just what they are up to. I am super pleased with how many mythologies and strange things I wove into this one. It is also awaiting a Beta reader and an editor.

March: OK March has been insane. I started it with the flu and had two migraines since then which in all took ten days out of the month not including recovery days where my brain and body were still mush. Suffice to say I have written very little between this and all the goddamn doomsday prepping I’m being forced to oblige in due to the Corona virus. I did not manage to finish a book but I did manage to write a little less than half in 25,000 words in Achilles in Heels – a sweet and satirical retelling of the childhood of Achilles where in order to avoid certain prophetic death in battle Achilles dodges the draft by dressing as a girl and living with a harem of princesses from age 12-16 years of age. It’s going a lot smoother now and I know I will finish it in April. Maybe I will get lucky and finish another then too.

Other Projects: Besides blogging I have also been continuing to add to my Dream Log which I will be publishing as well when the year is out. And I have contributed a gender-bent retelling of Cinderella to an anthology which I will share when it is published. Since January I have also written a series of short stories whenever they come to mind. In time when I collect enough I am sure I will put them into themed categories and publish. So yeah, I’ve been busy! Let’s see where this all takes me!
